It’s no secret that here at Kitchen Design Centre, we love helping you bring your dream kitchen to life! Our designers take pride in creating unique, stunning kitchens that are a true reflection of you.
That makes the beginning of a new year particularly inspiring for our creative luxury designers, as new trends, colours, and styles will emerge within the industry. These new trends give us, and you, even more options to create the kitchen of your dreams!
Here are a few trends that have caught our eye so far in 2020…
In the world of kitchen design, grey is quickly becoming a popular choice for many families and designers. It’s no wonder – grey is a sophisticated and highly versatile colour!
Grey comes in a variety of shades, from almost white to nearly black, and every shade in between. You can mix-and-match light and dark colours to create visually appealing contrasts or to highlight specific areas of the room.
Plus, grey kitchens have the advantage of being able to handle bold accents, colourful art, and captivating sculptures! This is because grey creates a muted effect (like a blank canvas) and allows the colours or textures within the art work to brighten the room. If you need a little grey design inspiration, you can view our contemporary cutting-edge kitchen for a DJ.
Dark kitchen colours are set to be a big trend in 2020. We’ve even designed one for our stunning showroom in South Manchester.
Many colour palettes that are growing in popularity are black, dark grey or other dark colours (like blue or green). They’re great for helping to create dimension in the kitchen, to help prevent it from looking flat. We love creating dramatic dark coloured kitchens that, at the same time, feel inviting and warm.
If you love the idea of a dark kitchen but aren’t sure if it’s right for you, our modern industrial meets Scandi kitchen can serve as a bit of inspiration to help you decide!
Wood accents have always been a popular feature in modern and traditional kitchens in one form or another. We expect to complete more kitchens in 2020 with light or strong dark wood accents. The colour of the wood chosen will largely depend on what other elements and styles will be in the kitchen.
Often, wood accents are chosen to soften the space and to help give it a more natural look and feel. Plus, wood is a fantastic way to balance out colours, contrasts, and other textures in your kitchen.
This contemporary design kitchen provides a great example of how to blend darker cabinets, a light worktop with stunning wood accents.
Unique stone slabs form the basis of a design trend that makes your kitchen island look like a solid piece of stone. Often, stone-textured or patterned cabinets are combined with a matching worktop.
The unique stone could be anything from luxurious marble to industrial concrete. We’ve recently created a kitchen in striking monochrome style that has a textured island, which can give you a wonderful idea of what it could look like in your dream kitchen.

There are a variety of ways that black can be worked into the kitchen to maintain balance, such as introducing a light marble to create a classic monochrome look. For something more bold and dramatic, black work surfaces and splashbacks will be paired with other black elements, such as stained or painted cabinetry or lighting for a wow-factor and opulent result.
